Difference, marginalization, and privilege. In a word, playing songs like this made me different when I was growing up. It was through this that I feel, now looking back, as if I did not fit in. However, I do not mind because I was able to play my trumpet in many countries. Did I have an advantage over others? I do not believe so because I had confidence in my ability (and unless you are a trained professional the mistakes I made in playing this song are unnoticeable at least to the eye:) So, in a proverbial nutshell, trumpet playing made me uniquely confident where some would think that being marginalized would be a bad thing. I look at my difference as what makes me who I am today: an open-minded cosmopolitan (artist).
