BSM Driver

Simply doesn't believe that 'give way to oncoming traffic' signs apply to him. I had to stop rather sharpish on my bike, forcing him to stop too, because to pass down his side at high speed in a narrow road section would not have been safe.

Note that I've taken this to BSM to complain; they may have done something about it, they may not have done, but I can't get any info out of them on this. They have, apparently, 'talked to' the driver, but they're not interested in seeing this footage, which I offered them.

Why, I need as much room as if I were a car. Thats what it says in the highway code, which is something I would expect a driving instructor to know. Wouldn't you? Now if it were a mistake I'd also expect a driving instructor to put his hand up and say so. Why didn't he? Because he didn't think he did anything wrong.

You have to give cyclists space on the roads; accept it or don't be on our roads.

O my god how much room do you want, just looking for a row in my book and that instructor man is human and can make mistakes like anyone else, he was over line so what and what gives you the right to go around speaking to other people like that, well i believe in korma and no one is a perfect driver so you will do something stupid well on your bike anyway and think back to that reaction from you when you do poor bloody bloke.

@shelly4499 He broke the rules and risked my life in doing so. The signs are very clear and this is right outside the BSM office. The driver knows the rules. If no one stands up to that kind of behaviour, then it will never change.

You'll note that even after being told of his error, he didn't correct it. He really should have reversed. Why do you think its okay for motorists not to obey rules?

Nothing wrong here - plenty of room for both, and you mention 'high speed' - the only one doing high speed was you. If you think the speed was unsafe, adjust it. Simple road procedure. And even if it was wrong [which it wasn't], why are you trying to spark road rage by mouthing off? Calm down.

@mrkfowler no, there wasn't safe room to pass with any kind of safety margin, which is why there is priority for traffic going the way I was going over traffic the way he was going. I had priority, he went straight past a stop sign and ignored that.

Absolutely disgraceful.....The cyclist that is!... Firstly we all make mistakes on the road, ask any other cyclist, secondly how much room do you need? Thirdly why are you picking a fight? Unnecessary and unacceptable....Seems to me that you've got a chip on your shoulder.

@choppernirve If cyclists are in the way, how come the government is trying to encourage cycling to reduce congestion? How many bikes do you pass on busy roads? Now put those people in a car and how much longer would the queue at the traffic lights be? VED is related to vehicle emissions, so you don't pay it of you drive a band A vehicle. Also many regular cyclists ARE insured. I pay under £50 for theft and third party cover for up to £3million damage.

@schneil I meant to say car tax at the time, my mistake. Its just that cyclists don't have to insure a bike to be on the road or pay tax on it as you would a car, so to be honest at the end of the day cyclists are just in the way.

@schneil The driver clearly stopped though, unless you were riding a 'huge' bike, there was easily enough room for a car to get through. The last thing a learner driver would want is a cyclist shouting at them and being way to over dramatic. Calm down and get on with it. BTW if a bike plays chicken with a car, the car will always win, so stay safe you angry little man ; )

@choppernirve Do you? Road tax was abolished in the 1930's! I pay VED on my car but the money for the roads comes out of council tax and general taxation. As I'm living by myself, I'm contributing to the roads more than someone who doesn't. Does that give me more rights to use the road than you? Oh and cyclists and horses are on the British roads by right (ref:The Highways act), the car is on road by licence. Does that mean cyclists have more right to use the road than a car??
