Troggle Trouble Math is a 1994 educational game by MECC, the legendary edutainment company responsible for classics like The Oregon Trail and the Munchers series. This game is an action-adventure spinoff of the Muncher games featuring the scientist Magenta and her dog Sparky as they try to rescue the Muncher from the evil Dr. Frankentroggle. Rather than presenting problems to answer, Troggle Trouble Math makes players explore a handful of stages (some repeated) and solve story problems to find items important to tracking down the Troggles. Incidental events force players (from grades 1 through 7) to make their own math problems and quickly solve equations.

This clip shows the game's introduction and roughly the first third of the game. The game runs slowly on purpose; otherwise, the fast speed and off-centered camera would send Sparky hurtling through the stage uncontrollably. The Macintosh version has much better music compared to the Windows 3.1 version's MIDIs.

  • How did you get this to install on Vista? I've still got a copy of it from years ago and I can't seem to get it working.

  • @mrnutt Windows 3.1 in DOSBox just uses normal directories, so I installed it through there but could run it in Vista. I haven't actually attempted to install it through Vista though... try tinkering with compatibility modes a bunch.

  • Anyone else remember a math racing game where you completed math problems to earn money to buy a car so you could race against a guy in a black dragster?

When he appeared you would hear "Ooh nooo, ohnooo, oh nooo."

    Anyone remember that?

  • @ethen24 Oh man! I remember that one too. Was it... Turbo Math Facts?

That voice got annoying really fast.

  • Ah...

The memories of playing this back when I was in 3rd Grade are coming back to me. Good times, I liked this game. Wish I could play it again, but 1) I have a Windows 7 and 2) I am in College now so it would be way to easy.

  • This game = AWESOME. For some weird reason, the sound Sparky made as he fell was really effin' hilarious. >w<

  • I get the feeling that it took less then 5 minutes to do the script, sound, and voice acting.
