East Street is one of the most popular streets in Brighton for visitors. Packed with shops, restaurants and nightclubs - there's plenty to do. However as new licensing laws have allowed clubs to open later and later, the night-time economy is having a negative impact on residents. Green City Councillor Jason Kitcat visits East Street with local residents, and discusses the problems they are experiencing.

  • Brighton has over 300 pubs, you're going to have noise everywhere in central town.

  • I have very little sympathy for you. People who move right near a major airport and then moan and whine about the noise of aeroplanes are exactly the same. East Street is one of the busiest and most centrally located roads in Brighton. Plenty of people living in that area expect it to be noisy but are happy living there due to the advantage of being so close to "the action". The solution is very simple...if you don't like it, Move on

  • Move then u fools

  • East Street at night has changed beyond all recognition. Some years back I was in the area at 10pm. I got off the coach at Pool Valley and walked along East Street all the way to the taxi rank (outside where Hannington’s used to be). I did not meet a single person on the street. Perhaps this was the East Street that the gentleman in the video knew when he first purchased his apartment there.

  • what's the problem with these residnets! he even said in the video "I know what I am buying into". Ofcourse he does, this is the centre of famous Brighton night life. So why complain now.

  • One cannot have a grunge against the licensing authority for granting permission for these premises; you must see the bigger picture. These clubs and shops attract more people into our city, especially students. Who in return inject millions of pounds back to our economy; surely this cannot be a bad thing can it?

  • Although I sympathise with the residents of this flat, but surely they need to be aware that this is a vibrant city and Brighton has always been known for its fashion, style and nightlife. One must also understand that this is a very difficult time for small businesses to survive. So if there is a demand business will supply. Shops, Pubs and Clubs have invested lot of money into their ventures and most importantly they are providing much needed local jobs.
