Una luna
(Poesia: Alî Al-Billanûbî - Versione: Patrizia Valduga
Musica: Etta Scollo)
Una luna! e vissi con lei;
A Moon
(Poetry: Alî Al-Billanûbî - Version: Patrizia Valduga
Music: Etta Scollo)
A Moon! And with him I lived;
now my life is already death.
He cried over my complaints
and so I didn`t complain.
With accusations I had already injured his heart,
and I healed it.
And then, as the black night defeated me,
I overpowered him.
As I crowned him with my turban,
I regarded him without a veil.
And I weaved for him precious cloths
and with these enwrapped him completely.
I embroidered characters, but I dreaded the prophecy
and picked them out.
And we were quarry to the chalice,
the lute faded earlier than usual
and the wood of the Aloe, with its
fragrant fumes shrouded him completely.
And the rosewater tore his vestments:
I patched them for him.
And the moon was there and looked on,
out of jealousy I didn`t heed this.
Oh life in a bright time!
I enjoyed the pleasures.
In his language I described him,
I praised and rebuked him.
And with the Koran I defended those
who I worshipped, and it pleased me.
