READ FOR UPDATES: Since I made this, more news on more remakes was released!
Wow! The Hunchback of Notre Dame is making quite a comeback! First, there is the official Broadway Production coming soon to New York, the live action film coming soon by Paramount Pictures, the live action film coming soon by Warner Bros...and now Quasimodo will be a lead character in the upcoming movie "Hotel Transylvania" which is set for release in September of 2012!
1) Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame is officially coming to the Broadway stage. It will be premiered in New York City hopefully within the next few years. This was confirmed by Alan Menken himself in a recent interview.
2) Paramount Pictures is coming out with a live action comedy inspired by the original novel. So far, it is being compared to the Pirates of the Caribbean series. It was pitched by Willie Block and Jake Emanuel.
3) It was recently announced Warner Bros will also be doing remake! This one will be produced by Josh Berlin who will also be starring as Quasimodo. Tim Burton will be directing (...FML -.- ) Oh boy, this should be interesting....
If you want to see another amazing musical adaptation of the Hunchback musical, check out Vox Lumiere! They are rock concert meets silent film in an all new multi-media extravaganza that's "absoloutly riviting"...
Oh no the absence of the Disney charm is what made the German production so epic! Hunchback is a dark novel and the musical should remain dark. As long as they keep it similar to the Berlin one and keep the ending the same then I'll be happy.
I swear I recall hearing somewhere (online I'm pretty sure) that some producer or other had offered the role of Quasimodo to Johnny Depp.
It would seem a good choice. To quote my friend Unglef, "If you asked Depp to play a piece of poo, he'd start steaming."
Anyhoo, it would be good to see a new film come along. So far my favourite version is still the Charles Laughton one...but I admit i liked the Disney. It's cute 'n sweet and all that.
