Dancers at the village of Palembei on Papua New Guinea's Sepik River welcome Alcheringa Gallery's crew in April, 2008. Shown is a new as well as a traditional dance, both accompanied by the deep booming of slit-gong garamut drums hidden in the men's spirit house (haus tambaran) shown in the background. The cat mask worn by the lead dancer is included in Voices and Visions, an exhibition of new Sepik sculpture opening September 10, 2008.
