Music and melody written by Bob Long
Lyrics written by Joey Elkins

Piano: Bob Long
Vocals: Joey Elkins

Bob Long is a gorgeous pianist I happened to discover a few years ago on Myspace. I was fortunate enough to meet up with him in 2008 and we had a ball just playing through jazz standards and sharing a few original ideas. "There Again" I was drawn to immediately. I loved how the chord changes moved, I loved the haunting melody. Finally I found some time to have a go at doing a better recording vocally.

I think life gives you what you need in a funny way - and Bob has been and continues to be such an encouragement and a gentle voice which calls me back to do music when I stray too far from the core of who I am, from music.

Unfortunately we don't live in the same country, so I thought this might be a lovely way to include him in what I did from this tiny home studio in London.

Bob, thankyou for being such an inspiration and for writing such an outstandingly beautiful tune. This is for you!

  • Joey deserves these accolades and more. She has a second sense about how to work in this context (and believe me for a piano player that is something not taken lightly). By the way, when I go out to hear a singer, I am the one who usually closes my eyes because it cuts out all other distractions. Here, if you do that as she sings, you can really get the full meaning of Joey's instrument.

  • Thankyou :). I feel totally encouraged ... that's the biggest gift you could have given me. Yes, isn't the whole "closing your eyes" thing interesting! I will often play piano in the dark when I feel blocked and searching for new chordal ideas as it seems to cut out the logical side of my brain leaving it to the ears to lead the way!

  • Classically velvet... which is a compliment heheh

  • Classically velvet... thankyou :).

  • Hi Joey, You are creative, soulful and elegant in your singing and in the way you present yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. Please keep me updated on your wonderful work.

    All the best!

  • Heya Peter,

Thankyou... I surely will do! Really appreciate you stopping by and listening :).

Very beautiful Broadway kind of voice, methinks. Have you tried auditioning at musicals before? You'll do really well!

Piano sound is amazing. But I guess it's a virtual instrument, am I right?
