002 - IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey - Campaign - Convoy

Alrighty people, as I've had promised that as soon as I got hands on the full game I'd begin my HD playthrough. So here it is, I JUST got the game yesterday, the Sep. 15th, and have been practicing and struggling to improve my skills while on the Realistic difficulty mode -- because, as a fan of the original game for the PC, this is the mode I feel I should complete my playthrough on and for a more complete experience.

And as far as the little time I've spent with the game(as of yet) goes, it is everything that I expected it to be having judged from the demo. Everything has been pretty much solid so far in terms of gameplay mechanics, graphics(amazing!) and sounds etc. However, I might point out that the higher difficulty modes have been quite intimidating so far -- they're unforgiving and stress-inducing. But I'm trying my best to adapt, and I'm sure that in time my skills will improve. =)

Anyways, back on the topic at hand. Like I've already said, everything about the game had been solid so far and this is looking to be a title that'll spend alot of time on. And not to mention I haven't even got started yet! I've only passed the first 3 missions as of now. There is so much more content and goodies to offer, the multiplayer mode for example, which I haven't even tried yet. So yeah, there is lots and lots of stuff for me to see and experience before I can pass any sound judgment on the game as a whole -- but hopefully by the time I'm done with this playthrough I'll(and you people, too) have an obvious and conclusive verdict. I'm thinking of getting this, but I tried the demo and I LOVE simulators, so I flew on highest difficulty. I found that using the controller was a bit tough (I have a joystick for PC with which I have no problem). So my questions are, do you use the controller or joystick, and is simulator mode really that tough or do I just suck at consoles? :-) Thanks

I don't own a joystick so I use the regular controller. And yes, the game is very challenging on Realistic and Simulator difficulties.

However, Simulator isn't at all that different from Realistic, really -- it is only a bit harder due to the lack of HUD elements, target-spotting, and being restricted to just the cockpit views.
