I've watched a lot of Ode to a Haggis videos on youtube and thought there was a lot of dodgy pronunciation out there, so thought I'd do a vid of how I think it should be said.

  • Beautiful job!!! can you come join our performances? we're looking for a good poet....

  • Yes, if it's in Scotland

  • Pretty good son, just remember ragout is supposed to sound like "rag-ooh" and stow a soo should also rhyme with spew.

  • Thanks and I appreciate the advice, and I've thought about that - but i think it's a slant on the french (I'm a french speaker) to deliberately mis-pronounce how they would say it and that way it rhymes with how we say sow - as in female pig.

    I'm a french speaker.

  • dios! no puedo diego. lo siento.

  • Thank u so much - Im planning one and I wish to do it right. I'll be studying it.

  • @Chewy7575 actualy the correct title in the complete works of Robert Burns is "To a Haggis"

  • Great job indeed, but next I wanna hear you do holy wullys prayer.

  • @duncs21 but the scots pronunciation of sow in this poem is "soo" as in 'rag-ooh', spew and view. The rest of the stanzas / verses are all exactly the same way.

  • @mickster69 Exactly! Was going to post the same thing.

Also duncs21...it's not Ode to a haggis. The correct title is Address to a haggis

  • This is excellent, a lot better than all these old fogies that try to exaggerate their accent. Good lad.

The "withered rash" bit was a bit camp mind, but a very good rendition. 10/10.

  • Very good. I watched this before I started learning it. Finally 4 days later I think I'm there. Will I manage it in front of a table full of people next week? Time will tell. Just watched this again and got more inspiration.

  • Thanks, I think I can actually learn this now.

  • Wow,- great...... any chance you do an Ode in Edinburgh in 2011?? Cheers
