First few levels (or 'flags') of my old arcade-pal Galaxian --- in MAME.

So cool to play that again... it's not like you can find it anywhere in the arcades these days! At least not in Holland... tough to even find an arcade let alone a Galaxian!

Unfortunately, my game decides to reboot after 9 minutes of play as you can see :(
I can save the game and keep adding 9 minutes of play after a reboot and savestate-loadup, but i wish someone could tell me how to prevent that reset from happening altogether...

It's also a shame that this site somehow mis-aligns the video and sound sometimes, coz in my original file it's in sync :/

Leave a message if ya like :P

  • Which was the game similar to this in which you had to "DOCK" the ship B4 going to the next level??

  • @Backin2time Hello. Docking the ship... could you mean Lunar Rescue? I only mention it because it's also from 1979, i don't think it's very similar to Galaxian at all. But maybe you are just referring to Galaga, where you can let an enemy capture your ship and then if you shoot that enemy, your ship will "dock" with your captured ship for increased firepower; but that has nothing to do with going to the next level. I hope one of those games is the game you are thinking of :)

  • @Jelle147 Hi it wasn't lunar rescue that you had to dock the ship before going to the next level. The game is kinda like Galaga and Galaxian. I'd like to know too..

  • @1970mrd

@1970mrd Ok. Did you see nostalgicmalcontent's answer? YT's message-system is so god-awful it moves replies all over the place. Was it perhaps Tac/Scan or Moon Cresta as he suggested? I can't really think of any others, i think Moon Cresta is the best bet. Check out KLOV, there's a video there under all the game info.

  • For me, at 17 years old, this game was back in 2002 when those little game systems came out to bring them back. My parents bought them, got tired of them and gave them to me...that's when I played the classics including Galaxian. It's weird to hear these sounds, because they were different on the newer game system, but still the same gameplay. So many hours spent! I'm satisfied with a 50,000 record.it started to piss me off Lol! It pissed off my cousins beating him too, because he played it most

  • @Masterr59 Greetings Earthling :)

Yes the sounds are very different on NES and other systems. The sounds in this video are quite close to the original galaxian arcade sounds, except the background hum should be much faster at the start of a flag/stage.

The game does get frustrating when you hit that "boundary" that impedes your progress.

I'm really glad lots of ppl are still playing Galaxian, and other classics. Timeless enjoyment... Thx for your message :)

  • i prefer galaga cause i liked getting the bonus ship from the alien.

  • @VB2P360

Galaga is the "remake" (or sequel actually) of Galaxian, not the other way around!!

Galaxian was the first arcade game to use true RGB colors, instead of color overlays.

I like the background hum and the pshhhh fire too :)

  • @Backin2time Tac Scan was a ship docking game, and so was Moon Cresta.

  • @wayneleon1000

Hi wayneleon, i agree with everything you've said :)

Sry i didn't reply earlier, i never received notification of your messag, so i just saw it now.

  • Get the Mame rom for Galaxian on, 'Romnation'. Do NOT OPEN the rom, instead, keep it zipped and insert it into the Mame emulator. Then you will be up and running and playing the original Galaxian, without having to put coins in a slot, ha!

  • Gameplay was the key to these types of arcade games. This is why the home system, Ninetendo have been so successful with their games over the years, because their software offered unparalled gameplay. No good having the best graphics going, it it fails in gameplay.
