Leaving the Fold is a documentary film about young Hassidic and ultra-Orthodox Jews in Montreal, New York and Israel who try to free themselves from a colorful yet repressed community because they can no longer tolerate living in the constricted world in which they were born. They are prepared to turn their backs on their relationships with their parents, their siblings and their sheltered community to make their way into secular society...and our baffling world of endless choices.

@marcschein I never saw the film, but I get the impression that they are using these Chabadniks to just show some Orthodox Jews. The Rabbi talking is clearly Lubavitch (about bringing children into the world and leaving them ...etc. )

@DanielForkbeard I think the main reason many (most?) people leave Judaism is that it has, by and large, has thrown out the baby and kept the bathwater. Without its kabbalistic mystical heart (unknown to most Jews), it is lost. But then this makes it no different from Christianity or Islam. A bunch of rules and rituals is utterly insufficient for a spiritual life - and at the end of the day, beside the point.
