"The Last Rose of Summer" was written by Thomas Moore (1779-1852). Thomas Moore dedicated this song to the "Rose."
According to Benjamin Britten the lyrics and melodies of Thomas Moore's Irish folk songs have been inspired by some of the 151 Irish songs that were published in Edward Buntings's dissertation on Irish music. Bunting's book of Irish tunes is called "Ancient Music of Ireland."
Live Performance of "The Last Rose of Summer" by Amadea (Mezzo-Soprano), Alexander Vinokurov (Clarinet) & Sean Hannon (Bodhrán, Backup Vocals). February 2008.

DOROTHEA ~
I have long loved Irish songs, for their melodies and for their nostalgic sadness.
This song benefits very much from your rich contralto ~ Brava!
