Stop the Live-Burnings!

In just the last 20 months, nearly 80,000 animals have been burned alive in barn fires in Canada. News of barn fires have become a weekly event, each one killing thousands of animals. Pig barns are the most affected with producers even stating in the media that they are tempted to do the same as prices for hogs are so low.

This is premeditated cruelty.

Why is the federal government not acting to protect these pigs?

CETFA urges all Canadians to contact the federal Minister of Agriculture Gerry Ritz and demand that fire codes for barns be added as criteria for whether hog producers receive federal bail-out funding - which is, after all, our tax dollars.

We have a say in this issue! Become involved. No one else is protecting these animals.

The Honourable Gerry Ritz

Thank you!

  • I too have been tracking the pig barn fires in the news. With so many in such a short time period, and so many animals enduring extreme suffering as a result, it is unbelievable, and totally unacceptable, that no action is being taken to address the issue. If our tax dollars are indeed going to be used to restructure the pig industry, money needs to be provided only with the condition that measures are taken to stop these fires!

  • What the F? The pigs are in cages? being burnt up? This is heart-breaking. What a dirty little secret you have stumbled upon...

  • The more I learn about the human race, the deeper my shame.

I did not found another race that is more frightening and monstrous than the human race. PLEASE don't stop to fight against this barbarism, let's make a fist against animal abuse worldwide and maybe the day will come, that we are allowed to call ourselves "civilized'. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • i figured there was more to it then all these accidental fires. it is HORRIFIC THAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE " A CIVILIZED NATION." My heart bleeds for the innocent suffering at the hands of evil people. This has to be stopped!!!

  • thats just sick man. sick!

  • JESUS CHRIST! Time to burn these humans to death! That is what they deserve. No animal deserves to die, much less like this! SICK!

  • murder

  • @Mtthyman

We're very concerned that the number of trapped pigs dying in fires in Canada is climbing: almost 100,000 now (in 1.5 years). The cages they're locked in basically insure that they cannot escape & no employee has been at the barn to initiate fire control once the spark begins. The industry, with its use of cages, needs to move forward: there is something gravely wrong with this picture. The government could step in and help pork producers move forward and into a better system.

  • @gripdoggy they keep them in cages to control breeding, disease, and so they can monitor the individual pigs to make sure they are getting enough food, and that they are healthy. and there are multiple ways that fires can start, there could have been bad wiring, something could have sparked. but i highly doubt that the farmer, that has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars on this, did this on purpose.
