In January, 2009, the Mighty 8th Air Force Heritage Museum realized a dream held since the museum's founding in 1996--the acquisition of a B-17 Flying Fortress, the icon of the legendary WWII bomb group. SEE MORE OF MICHAEL JORDAN'S VIDEOS AT WWW.COSMOSAVANNAH.COM.

  • Always admire the Mighty 8th Air Force. I live in England and live in the surrounding area where the 8th Air Force bomber and fighter command were based during the war. I only live 10 miles away from where the famous Memphis Belle was based. Bassingbourn museum even has a prop off of the Memphis Belle. :) Always loved this planes, and is a shame we only have one that flys in England, and rarely due to insurance. I've only seen it fly over my house once, and never at an air show. :(

  • these aircraft should be flown. i was in batavia, ny the other day and mephis belle (movie aircraft) was flying out of genesee county airport. what a cool sight to see. i was in walmart and i heard it take off, how unique to hear that in 2011. wonderful

  • love you grandpa phil <3 you will always be my hero

  • @earniemanson i agree with you on this. that act of a sawsall was down right blasphemy to the mighty 8th.

and to quite honest, the only 2 proper B-17's that should be rightfully in that museum is Col. Robert Morgan's "Memphis Belle" (the original B-17F, not that

B-17G Memphis Belle wannabe from the movie) and "Sentimental Journey".

  • you say that this aircraft is unique, i will fully agree to that, the b17 is a real gem, however, i am really pissed off that you cut the dorsal like that, you outright lied in sying that it was at a manufacture seam ,then what the hell is with the sawzall, the whole damn dorsal could have been removed to clear the door=yes that IS the production brake< read the fucking maintenance manual b4 letting jethro dipshit loose with a saw, read the manual first dumbasses

  • my grandpa was in a b 17 he was in the square J group and he was a ball turret gunner

  • I thank you Marine for supporting the 8th Air Force through your commitment! My father was assigned with the 8th in England and would have liked to shake your hand. Signed a grateful son!

  • where did this particular fort come from?

  • This is SO exciting. My grandfather was a B-17 pilot in the Mighty Eighth, and now I am in AFROTC continuing his legacy. This museum was already amazing (I have been multiple times), but now it is truly complete! I cannot wait to visit again!!!

  • Congratulations to all those dreamers, collaborators and orchestrators who have sucessfully given this remarkable aircraft an appropriate final resting place. Thank you for all you have done. Great video. Nice job. RMB, Danbury, CT
