Papa Bob and I catch a swarm of honeybees in the front yard of Faith Mountain Farm without any protective clothing! It went well.

  • Didn't you smoke them at all before the shake? I didn't see smoking during the transfer.. though i might have missed it. Nicely done.

  • @PhailWynn No smoke. Best not to smoke with swarms since they are using pheromones to communicate.

  • do they build any bit of combs when they land or is it just the cluster like that

  • Usually not since the first place they land is only a temporary spot until they find a better home. When they do find a home they quickly build comb.

  • @cruelratkiller12 Some bees are just nicer than others. If you did this with bees that have very litle honey in them, than they would kill you. Also if you did this in a colder climate or with a different strain then good luck to you :)

  • awesome video i love raseing bees hey! how are the bees doing now?

  • I like how the boy holding the camera is well informed and knows not to be afraid. Good parenting and a nice swarm capture.

  • how come they did not kill u

  • @ChevySilverado2500 of course they can still sting. However, because they have not established a new home, they are not defensive and are least likely to sting while swarming.

  • Swarming bees are usually full of honey and find it difficult to get the abdomen in the position to sting you and they don’t need smoking as they are otherwise

preoccupied with the swarming. Next time you see a film with viscous swarming bees, remember it only a film.

  • Splendid job. Way to go. :) I'm just learning, gonna have my own first hives in a few days :) Thanks for the demo.

  • My dad used to have bees a long time ago, then he moved away and my mom sold all the hives,2 weeks ago a bee hive moved close to my house and i put some old boxes with the molded wax to catch them, they went inside and started to build a nest, yesterday a cat i have put the box with the hive to the flor they created beard at the entrance and today they moved away,i cant find the temp. hive anywhere, there is still a little bit of honey still inside,is there a way to attract them back to the box?

  • Oh cool, thanks! I'm retiring in 4 years, moving to the country and among other things want to get into beekeepting.

  • HOLY SHIT! this guys got BALLS!
