It may be rather confusing for students who don't have a lot of practice or guidance writing them. Some students may even go through middle and high school without ever being asked to create one. However, the concept should not be abandoned. There are many benefits to creating traditional outlines and you should encourage your child to construct them as they read and take notes.

Watch our helpful video and download our Traditional Outline handout and learn not only the benefits of working with these types of documents, but how to teach your child to create them. We provide you with a template that you can use to model for your child how to create a traditional outline. Then, let your child use this template as a guide as he creates his own.
