for all the people that say this is stupid.. i doubt you can ever think of an idea that is this original or make something capable of going 75" in just 5 seconds so before you start calling everyone dumb hicks keep in mind they are in fact in san francisco and keep in mind that you don't know how to make any of this and probably have never even thought of something as original as this or have the initiative to actually follow through with it..

Even though this video seems Tame.. Unguided CO2 missles, Homemade rocket engines and homemade JET engines are the norm. The most dangerous racer used a real 12 gauge shotgun mounted to a roller skate
Believe me I've done this event three times. We play for keeps in San Francisco.
Wanna beat the record.... Well it's .7 seconds for 75 feet at 125 mph. That would be pretty hard for a top fuel dragster to beat actually...

how long is the strip? does each racer start their own or both started from a single switch?

The track is 75 feet long and 12 inches wide between the 2"x4" wooden rails. Each racer/driver pushes their own launch button when the Flag Girl drops the flag. This event is truely a drag race with all of the same challanges of an automotive even't. Well of course the folks from the S.F. Bay area add a lot of interesting style and comedy as well.

in this you push and hold a button and you dont need to shift or worry about anyone in your line and you arent at risk at all... so this isnt like drag racing but i like it anyway

Well there is a bit of risk we are standing directly behind the racers and the saw blades do tend to shed tungston carbide teeth from time to time. Also some of the machines do tend to blow up or jump out of the track. Folks do get hurt (bleeding and deep cuts).. By the way we are working on a automatic two speed rear axle for next time.
