United Nations, New York, 31 July 2009 - Noon briefing by the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has condemned in the strongest the bomb attacks on five Shi'a mosques in Baghdad, Iraq today.
Speaking about the attacks that have left dozens dead and wounded, Mr Ban said attacks against places of worship cannot be justified by any political or religious cause.
The attacks appear to be aimed at provoking sectarian strife and undermining stability in Iraq. The Secretary-General appeals to the Iraqi people to reamin steadfast ni their efforts to resolve difference through dialogue and achieve national reconciliation.
