Somewhere in southern Oregon, in a geothermally heated greenhouse, at the edge of ancient Lake Klamath, intelligent people are raising spider mites on a massive scale, on purpose. They raise them for their eggs which are then shipped to another facility, hatched out and used as food for a different kind of mite that feeds ravenously on spider mites. Those mites are sold and shipped all over the world to bring spider mite infestations under control without the use of pesticides. Kinda cool, in a surreal sort of way.

Here then is a brief glimpse into that strange world.

  • OK, after fielding a few hateful messages here from individuals who obviously missed the underlying story, I feel compelled to reiterate that these guys grow spider mites as food for beneficial predator mites. These predator mites are shipped out to customers worldwide that want to get rid of spider mites without using harmful poisons. But they can only grow these mites if they have something to eat, and what they eat is spider mites. Make sense?

  • damn imagine that infestation in your garden. DAmn !!

  • whats the song???????

  • God these guys are absolute geniuses!!! I have worked in a green house that switched from using the toxic sprays to beneficials and it is soo much better. I don't have any numbers so this won't be scientific but from one who has been there these beneficial insects work great and no health concerns. Thanks Guys! And to all the haters, spider mites hate humidity and will not survive in oregon so to kill those mites all he would have to do is let them outside.

  • kill them please do not let them get in the wild this is not good spider mites are pests that ruin tomato crops etc..
