Infantile spasm? Acid reflux? Exaggerated moro reflex? The weird behavior we've been noticing doesn't really start in the video until about 1:15. It could be that he's just developed a weird way of crying, however, most parents that have seen the videos we took, have never seen their children behave this way, and we hadn't seen it before this last Sunday. He'll be 3 months on April 21st. This was videoed today (April 19th 2011). The spasms began sunday night, the 17th. Before then he LOVED laying on his back. Now when we lay him on his back, it's as if he knows what's about to happen and then sure enough, after a little bit, he does this. If you notice the red spots on his face, arm, leg...he has those all over his body and has had those for 3 weeks now. We saw the doctor yesterday and in regards to the rash, he said that he didn't know what the rash was but since the baby is "healthy and happy" we have nothing to worry about...? We also described the spasms to him and he insisted that we were just describing moro reflex. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

  • @carenbon Also he hasn't spasmed since then but he still gets the red bumps all of which doctors could never really explain. We've spoken with a geneticist about his bumps and growth and they're still trying to figure out what--if anything--is going on with him.

  • Hi,

I was wondering if you know what it is? Our baby boy had allmost the same spasm and the doctors thought that it was infantile spasm/syndrome of west..

It wasn't that..thank god, but it was a reaction on the vaccination..

If you want to know our story let me know.

    All the best!

  • @carenbon YES I would LOVE to know your story! No one could ever tell us what was going on. I think doctors ended up resorting to him startling from reflux pains. A reaction to vaccination?? My husband wondered that because they started happening soon after his 2 month vac. He also got a rash (red bumps all over; they come and go) the following week and he STILL has it (he's 6 months now so he's had it for 4 months). I would love more info on what happened with your little guy! Thank you!!

  • He had an EEG & an MRI of the brain & both came back normal. We have spoken with a geneticist because although he hasn't really "spasmed" much for quite some time, he has been having other problems (liver overactiveness, red bumps all over body for three months, growth problems, etc.). We're still investigating but it's possible that these spasms he was experiencing was due to what's called Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome (which is what the geneticist is suspicious of). Time will tell. Thanks.

  • So in this case the sneeze triggered his stomach muscles to clinch up causing a cramp. Took me along time to figure it out, so, if the baby still does it, notice the trend. Its a baby charley horse. That cute little bugger will be fine. My son quit doing it once he started to assisted sitting/standing and using his muscles more and more. Get that baby in the gym . lol. Cute baby btw. Man what has happened to me..I am commenting on baby crap.. lol, fatherhood will do that to you I suppose.

  • Sorry about last post, I-phone didnt notify me of character limits on text..continued

The babys muscles are not yet developed and is getting stomach muscle cramps IMHO, I noticed when I would give my son a gental toss up and when he came down it would happen, or even when he was trying to sit up by holding my fingers. he would turn bright red and get bug eyed. Just for a few seconds then return to normal. Rather sad when I brought it up to our doctor that they had no clue.

  • First time in my YouTube career I have actually responded to a legitimate video that is not something of a bizarre nature.

My son (7months old at this point) had something very similar happen to him up until he was about 4 months old. He would freeze up, turn red and get bug eyed. Lol. Laughable now because after trial and error on my own part I came to realize that it was simply, although terrifying to both the baby and myself, stomach muscles cramping.

The babys muscles are not yet develo

  • Fascinating how the sneeze seemed to be the trigger, and then the pain began. It knew it was coming for a while, and then it was sure after the sneeze. Fascinating.

  • I know people are just trying 2 be helpful but r they watching the same video as me? I totally see what was worrying you. The poor little guy really looked like he was in an awful amount of pain; esp. in 3 difft "twitches or spasms", it looked like it was a really sharp pain suddenly shooting up b/c he opened up his eyes real big & wasn't even able to cry until the shooting pain passed. I'm not a doctor or nurse but I am a mom and I see it in his eyes. Did you ever figure out what it was/is?

  • That is like the cutest baby EVER

  • when my son was a baby you would not believe all the weird spasms & twitches & things he would do, used to worry me & drive me crazy-he even had a weird head tilt he'd do for a while but for every weird thing he did he'd move onto something else, he's now a happy & healty soont to be 6 yr old who has no issues. Babies sometimes do weird things that we just can't figure out & worry ourselves crazy & the fact that docs & the internet put a label on their every move makes it worse.

  • @emilytingey1024 my baby does it also during an episode of crying..i think its just stress rash, because then it goes away after a bit

  • hi this is dr Sk form doctorchild com, this video is surely not of infantile spasms or moros reflex. this child seemed to have some nose discomfort or block on those 3-4 days that made his breathing uncomfortable when laid on back.

  • I wouldn't pay attention to the MrMcshane, he's probably some form of pedophile just littering youtube with his mindless thoughts just to make himself feel better. He's done it to many from what i can see, he also decided to target a youtube video of my nephew. You have a beautiful baby :)
