The only difference from then and now is back then it was an ass of consoles out there and now its just Ps, xbox and nintendo.

If you play attention, it was still that 4-6yr gap between each brand console. Look at the yrs between Nes, Snes, N-64 and gamecube, or the gap between sega, sega genesis and dreamcast or ps1, ps2 and Ps3. All of those consoles always release around the same the competitors releases their new console which was always 4-6yrs after the previous make.

@datbwoity your wrong snes was released in 1991 in north america N64 in 1996 that's 5yrs buddy ps1 in 1995 ps2 in 2000 that's 5yrs. buddy sega saturn 1995 dreamcast 1999 that's 4yrs. buddy ps2 in 2000 xbox 360 2005 that's 5yrs buddy and that kicked off the next generation where did you get 6yrs. from like I said, before this generation 5yrs was the max before the next one started

The problem isn't the systems, it's the developers. Question, do you think that the ps3 is maxed out? The Blue-ray is not even maxed out yet, and you can blame x-box for that. Because the developers are to lazy. I think xbox needs to make a new system, but as far as ps3, they just need to start maxing out the Blue-ray and we will see the difference in the product.

Honestly I dont think its the consel i really think its the games and the people cuz games got more redundant cuz all games are the same shit and now everybody just cheats and plays cheap and camp in games or hack lobbies it just that just generation got lazy and story modes in games are just too damn short I dont think developers put enough time into games and givin us 60 dollar beta so yeah we could use new consel but we need better games too...

The problem isn't with the consoles (well, with wii it is), but with the developers. The hardware is capable of doing much more than they have so far. Developers haven't pushed these consoles to their limits yet. As Sony and MS see it there's no point in building out new hardware when the power of the current consoles hasn't been maxed out.
