This is really really interesting. I know Cameroon has no shortage of primate pets and primate bushmeat going around, but are baboons (its a chacma infant isnt it?) even that tolerated as pets? I thought the locals hated baboons with a vengance ? Did you see many baboons getting looked after by the kids etc?

I would have bought it just to stomp on it. Anyone who has worked with these damm things, if their honest hates them as much as I do.

The reason the baby fights so hard to stay with him is that in the wild, other males will pull it off mama to kill it. Infant baboons stand a less then 40% chance of survival. A new leader kills all the infants that aren't his. If food or water is scarce, they run off and leave the babies to die or become prey. It's instinct is to latch on to where it feels secure. This infant was likely abandoned and it got lucky. Most native people consider vermin and kill them in pretty horrible ways.
