  • This song is fabulous but it was never on the radio so you actually had to listen to the whole album to hear this treasure. Kids today have no patience to listen to an entire album - they download songs one at a time and never get a feel for the artist. Their loss.

  • "Was a cactus blooming there as you watched the native boy?

In a Flagstaff trailer court you wrote the line: "He kicked a tumble weed and his mother called him home where the Arizona moon met the Arizona sun."'

Great lyric, great song, great album and great group.

  • Being a little girl playing in the living room, my dad playing this album over and over again, i loved it and still loving it now.

  • I love this music BUT especially the descriptive Merchant lyric poetry...super nice!!

  • This album is one of the best of all time. No questions asked. From start to finish, great songs, led by Natalie.

  • By their third album Natalie was really coming into her own, getting comfortable in "her' style. One of my favorite 10000 albums: In My Tribe

  • i just drove I 40 and thought of this song, brings back so many memories of my youth

  • Why are so many great songs left off the radio while garbage is played until you're sick of hearing it. The Painted Desert, was great on so many levels it didn't have a chance I guess; I would have loved to hear it live in concert, outdoors, on a cold night in the New Mexico Mountain town of Taos.

  • one of the best ever of american music albums . end of story

  • in my tribe is one of the best albums i have ever heard

  • LP issued in 1988, if you can believe it. Almost 24 years have passed.

"The stars were so many there; they seemed to overlap." Even after all these years, whenever I look to a clear night sky, I repeat these words to myself.

  • Everytime I get gome to Santa Fe, I listen to this song...hauntingly beautiful, I'm glad I had the pleasure of getting hooked on this album in the 90's...
