why can-t you heat the gallon with the cones in the kitchen?
-
one can even hook a sealed pipe up to that hole in the 5gallon container, and use that smoke as fuel into a generator, instead of gas :P
-
the wood inside the nearly sealed can turns to charcoal. the wood you see in the barrel that is engulfed in flames will burn to ash.
Pay attention, there is two metal containers, a 55 gal drum that I am using to contain the fire, and a much smaller 5 gal bucket inside the fire. it is not really visible in this video. look at my other charcoal video.

so it wont burn all the way to ash? it just turns to charcoal?

You can use any type of wood for the fire. if it burns it will make heat. the idea is to heat your material (i.e. pine cones or willow) in a zero to low oxygen environment. in the video the pine cones are sealed in a metal 5 gallon paint can with a hole punched in the top. the can is surrounded by fire to heat the contents and reduce it to charcoal.
that is not charcoal you are yust burning wood

@ianspaintpot Thanks for looking. I have a much better video that shows what is going on here a lot better. It is indeed making charcoal, but this video is difficult to see what is going on. Look at my charcoal tutorial video.

@hockey4life1313 I'm sure you could. give it a try, just be cautious of the exxessive amount of smoke and gas coming from the can. Indoors might be a challenge. See my charcoal toutorial video. It is really useful.
