10 minutes of wisdom that will last a lifetime! Your spiritual transformation has begun!
Murshid as-Salikeen, Tarjumal al-Arifeen, Imam Ibn Ata'illah al-Iskandari's "The Hikam" is considered one of the masterpieces work of Islamic spirituality. Set to the sound of the human heartbeat, all 264 powerful aphorisms are shared here for you oh true seeker!
This amazing work has produced hundreds of commentaries, and in every century a commentary on this work has been produced. Shaykh Ahmad Zarruq wrote 17 commentaries on the Hikam. Commentaries by Ibn Ajibah and Ibn Abbad are also available online.
According to Ibn Ajibah the Hikam is written on 4 levels:
1- Admonishment: similar to books of Ibn al-Jawzi, Imam al-Muhasibi, "Qut al-Qulub" of Abu Talib al-Makki and "Ihya Ulum ad-Din" of Imam al-Ghazali.
2- Filtering actions and correcting the states through acquiring the best states, similar to the works of al-Ghazali and as-Sahrawardi.
3- Realization of the states and stations, explaining real tastes of every maqam. Much of the material of the Hikam is for people who are about to reach a state, and gnostics in early stages of Suluk. Ibn Ajibah says this level is from the works of Ibn'l Arabi, and Hatim at-Tai.
4- Knowledge acquired through inspiration, "ilma laduni."
This outwardly short work is inwardly expansive, summing up all works of Islamic spirituality, whether they are lengthy or short, with brevity, clarity and preciseness. It is a must for all Muslims seeking closeness to Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
