millions of protestants leave their churches to become Catholic each year not because there are sinners in their churches but because they have discovered that the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ, it gave us the Bible, and empowers its people by the sacraments (if they choose to accept the graces). watch the show "The journey Home" on EWTN every Monday at 8pm EST and hear the stories of many Christ loving protestants who have come home to the Catholic Church.

the Catholic Church just like all churches are fields sown with weeds and wheat. If someone leaves the Church because there are sinners in it and they join some protestant church the minute they enter it they have already screwed it up because that person as well as the people in that church are sinners. This is no reason to leave the Church, you would just be jumping from church to church for the rest of your life constantly being disappointed.

in reply to alot of RC's have left the Church due to these stories...abuse of indulgences or any practice in the church does not invalid the practice or the Church as a whole, all it shows that the person who is abusing this practice or belief isnt living up to his office, this is due to the fallen nature of man (Peter denying Jesus, Judas betraying Jesus, etc) After Peter denied Jesus, Jesus still appointed him as the Stewart of the Church (see John 21).

.....abusing and corrupting the very notion of what indulgences are to profit, this is due to man's fallen and sinful nature, the Pope, Bishops, Priests, etc arent god's they are imperfect men just like all of Christianity. To get a clear understanding of the Catholic teaching on indulgences i refer you to paragraph 1471 to 1489 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Indulgences are very closely related to the sacrament of penance which Jesus instituted (John 20:21-23)

oishidiesel, indulgences has to do with the remission of temporal punishment that is intertwined with every sin. Indulgences include: good works, charitable monetary donations, etc. Indulgence donot get one to heaven, the Church has always taught that salvation is given by the Grace of God. From that grace the person is given the gift of faith and that faith is faith working in love. There were bad corruption in the Church where Pope Leo X and other members of the clergy .....
