Sarnelli House is an orphanage founded by Fr Mike Shea near Nong Khai, in the North of Thailand, for abandoned children and children with HIV/AIDS.

He has approximately 130 children in his care, about half of whom are HIV+. Most of these children are the orphans of people who died of AIDS, although some are placed in his care by the court.

Fr Mike came to childcare late in life. He has been in Thailand 39 years, pastoring villages in the hills on the Laos border. Ten years ago, one of his parishioners fell ill with TB and AIDS. Since then, Fr Mike has lost 140 adults to AIDS, and has accepted the responsibility for the children they left behind. Over time, one Orphanage has become four, as children with HIV have been concentrated at Sarnelli House, with non-HIV boys, girls and babies living in separate establishments.

His mission is to work in the spirit of love where the children can find a purpose in living and be nurtured as they grow into adults.

Very good film. It puts other problems in perspective!

We have visited Sarnelli many times and were so moved by the all volunteer staff and beautiful (&happy) children, that we are planning a 4th fundraiser for them, as they run the orphanage on pure donations, love and compassion (but those don't buy food or medicine). Please consider donating to this worthy cause. Also consider visiting and seeing for yourself.

not sad or painful - necessary and courage. I have respect... there is no place for false pitty if you deal with this stage... look until the end how happy they are. they'd never been that happy if they've not been taken there.. just imagine such people would not take care.. therefore, again, my deepest respect.
