Czerny wrote this sonata at around 1820. It is brought to a very clever finish once again through an effective fugue as an additional movement. Daniel Blumenthal plays.
@Lukecash12 I'm saying that the book's assessment of him was wrong. I was emphasizing your point by saying that he was a good pianist, and that using technical studies (which are not serious compositional works) to judge a composer was wrong.
@thegreatapologist I don't understand. Are you empathizing with the fact that I don't like people looking down on Czerny as a composer, or are you saying that his compositions are mediocre?
I'm sorry, that statement was simply false. However anyone may have felt about his compositions, he was a extremely skilled pianist, according to quotes f the time. He personally taught Franz Liszt. And who are we to judge his pianist ability 200 years after he was performing!? we have no recordings!
And using his throwaway etudes that he wrote for his students as an assessment of his compositional ability is a very irresponsible action. Shame on that book!
I actually like this composition, highly enjoayable to listen to...who'd a thought Czerny could do this, as most performers stave away from any performance type music as they believe it would sound like his hundreds of etudes!

@jenofontesi Well, Czerny came first. So, I guess Mendelssohn sounds like Czerny music.

Maybe not quite as good as the 1st sonata in A-flat, but I like it very much, and, of course, the playing is wonderful.
