Is the Atari Jaguar a bad console?

(To the people disliking the video: You're the reason I made this. Did you even watch it all of the way through? Did you listen to the evidence I presented? Children.)

Is the Jaguar a bad console? It's definitely the prevailing opinion. There are certain Youtube celebrities that perpetuate the fallacies that plague comment threads and it was about time someone actually did a little research, debunked some ridiculous myths and vindicated the Jaguar once and for all.

I had both iron soldiers, i could not handle the controls that well, i liked highlander cd as well, most people hate it, until you get the sword and can actually kill, it is a pain, but after that, good fun, although getting hit by enemies off screen, is bad programming.

@squirm13 That's fair enough. They do have an unconventional control scheme. Highlander has also looked pretty cool to me. I will definitely have to check it out if I can find a Jag CD for a good price.

I have been a fan of the jaguar for years, and had many jaguars and cd drives, all the cd drives worked, i had many because i used to keep consoles and them sell them, but always ended up with the jaguar, i had some very good games, such as avp/doom/ etc and some very good cd games, battlemorph(incredible) etc.

@squirm13 Nice to hear from you. Yes, the Jaguar has an amazing library overshadowed by some seriously mediocre titles. Battlemorph is good but I would probably rate Iron Soldier 2 over it if we're talking about CD games. If you haven't played it I would recommend you track it down! Although, I'm probably preaching to the choir. :p

I'm not familiar enough with the Jaguar to speak to this issue, but it's sad when ignorant youtube pundits influence new generations. The worst I've encountered is the fellow who does Classic Game room reviews of 80's consoles. He has NO IDEA what he's talking about, and makes errors about basic facts regarding gameplay, consoles, opinions in that era, etc. He seems to think that just making up facts and opinions...all with a smarmy attitude is enough...and it is enough to trick younger kids..

@datacipher Oh god. Classic Game Room in general pisses me off. The reviews are basement quality. I mean, check out the Space Jam review of theirs and then check out the Yoshi's Story review. Two totally mediocre titles that got glowing reviews. It's nice to see you got the idea behind this video. It's nice to see such a level headed comment.

Hmm i have the same feeling about this video too, like when the avgn reviewed the sega CD he said it was a piece of fucking shit, but all the games he really reviewed for it where not really that good, and for the 32x neither.. He could also have reviewed all the good games for it instead of some shitty ones. I think he should atleast have looked up too good games too, but youknow he has to make those episodes, and they are pretty fun, maybe just dont take them too serious.

@TheFlyingJester I do kind of blame the AVGN because (and bearing in my mind I ALSO like the AVGN, which I stated in the video) he doesn't seem to understand that there is this cult he has developed that follows everything he says and we have thousands of people basically mimicking his opinion instead of having their own, informed one. He needs to be more measured.

Don't blame the AVGN, he's just trying to be funny. And I have two Jag CDs, both of which do not work. There's not a lot to be done with a CD based system that doesn't use totally standard parts. I also own two Sega CDs, both of which work. At the very least, the Jag CD isn't as well built as other company's addons.

The Jag had some good games, but generally the games were at least not as good as the SNES or Genesis. That's totally my opinion, but it's also not against the Jag.
