What's Right For Me: SSI or SSDI?

California Social Security Disability Lawyer
SSI vs. SSDI

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a benefit administered by the Social Security Administration for the benefit of disabled people who make little income and have limited financial resources. The current monthly SSI benefit in the state of California is $858, which is subject to periodic change and subject to various offsets.

A person may not receive SSI benefits if they have assets of more than $2,000 for a single person or $3000 for a couple. However, this asset cap does not include a home or an automobile.

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is another program administered by the Social Security Administration for the benefit of disabled people. To be eligible for SSDI benefits, you must have a disability that has substantially affected your ability to work, for 12 months or more. The disability must be sufficient enough to be defined as a qualifying disability by the Social Security Administration.

To be eligible for SSDI benefits, you must have worked for a sufficient period of time and paid into Social Security. The amount of SSDI benefits you receive will depend on how much you have earned and how much you have paid into the system. Monthly SSDI benefits may range from $500 to $2000 or more, and you can receive an award for back pay for up to twelve months before the time of your filing.

  • How many ssi checks can one househould recieve?

    thanks

  • @PamelaRP DO like I had to do. I moved to North Dakota. I live in Florida the wait period for my hearing was going to be 3 to 5 years.

after my second time applying and getting turn down. my lawyer told my about moving up there. He said the wait period is a lot less.

I have parkinsons. THe lawyer said they should had granted me mine the second time.

  • I got my SSDI and checked on this.

I can make as much interest as I want on my CDS. and investments they are not earned income.

As for my state retirement. If I ge the 300 they will take it right off the top of my SSDI and I will have to pay taxes on that 300 dollars so it is not worth it for me to apply for my state retirement now. I have to wait until I'm 65 when they change me to regular social security

  • Very informative thx for posting!

  • @altha2008 That wont put you over, I believe ths max amount for SSDI is like 900 dollars a month

  • ingredients put in cigarettes

  • This video is bought and paid for by the attorneys who deny everybody. My attorney denied me fo no reason and I am not able to work at all. I cannot even walk and use a walker and am disabled because I also have anxiety and severe severe depression and CANNOT GET IT and it is because of fraud and abuse in the system and the huge numbers of people in Oregon that are committing fraud and getting SS and are not even disabled. It has been 12 years and I am still fighting. This video is a big lie.
