Britain is an island made up of England, Scotland and Wales. The UK is made up of Britain and Northern Ireland. So England is part of Britain and the UK.

Pavement in the states normally means any asphalt or concrete surfaces. Which thinking about it, is probably why we say sidewalks.

I would like to ask you about a book.
I have read a novel written by a British person and I noticed British spelling like centre and colour, etc. was never used. Was it changed because the book was printed in the U.S.? In this case, is there no violation of copyrights?
Also sixth floor in British is seventh floor in American. Do you think it was changed from the original text too?
I found the word queue appeared in the novel, so I assume that use of words is not allowed to be changed.

Yes, I guess the author must have agreed to changing the spelling for the American market. They must have changed the 6th and 7th floor as well so as not to confuse people! I guess books by American authors are often changed for the British market too. I suppose they didn't change queue to line because they thought people would understand, and perhaps it made the novel seem more British.
