Paul Stivaletta takes ABT for a tour of his personal training gymnasium and provides a review of his boxing awards and memorabilia. In this instalment Paulie talks about how he nearly killed a man (Dave Grant) in the ring. This is the fight that is shown in the classic footage that Atlantic Boxing Television uses in their closing credits, taping the hands. Paul also talks about shortening fights for safety purposes.

  • Death and severe injury need to be understood as rare ramifications of the boxing game. Officials need to take responsibility and control of the fight, with a ring doctor's counsel.

  • This is a difficult question because no one rule will cover all possibilities. What you say about the plus side of fifteen rnd. bouts is very true but there are situations when letting a fighter, even a champion, take more punishment is too risky.

Oddly enough, I've read a lot of things that indicate that deaths in boxing were rare until the introduction of gloves which allowed fighters to put full power into head shots. Without gloves that would likely break your hands.
