Irvine & Newport Back Bay - Tour by Recumbent Trike

I met Keith, whom I had previously only known from the internet. (he saw my videos and I saw his). He was in Orange County for the afternoon so I showed him around The San Diego Creek Trail in Irvine and the Newport Back Bay. Keith commutes to work on his trike like I do. It was fun getting to meet and ride with a new trike friend.

ive been riding on the santa ana river trail, but theres been recent muggings of cyclists on it, and its too dangerous for someone riding alone like me, so I wanna ride this trail, but its entry points are a little cryptic.

@blastofo - one good place to park and get to the trail is at the Civic Center Park near the Irvine Civic Center... (also called Bill Barber Park). There is trail access near the softball fields. Yeah, I just heard about the muggins on the SART yesterday. This trail has more on street crossings (as apposed to undercrossings like the SART, and the route around the Back bay is not totally on trail if you make the loop. you do have to do some streets. But it is a great trail. Fun to ride.

Keith has a Catrike "Trail". He also has an electric assist hub in the back which he uses on his very hilly commute. Pretty cool he could drop back out of the way single file when someone was passing, hit the electric power and zoom back up next to me and resume human power. ;-)
