Doesn't this chorus break your heart? The pleas from innocent children in rags for help, the hungry and penniless Nutan's temptation to steal the coin tossed for the kids( a temptation she ultimately defeats and thus shows her pearl-like purity of character , though that's not seen here), and Moh'd Rafi's golden singing-- all are as authentic a replication of a sad social reality as one will ever seen on the screen. My Mumbai - can be enchanting and heartless! The principal character in this song is Mumtaz Ali, father of comedian Mehmood - although I can't be sure after all these years.
