The Atari 2600 was born way back in 1977, I had mine as a Christmas present in 1979. Regarded as one of the most iconic consoles of it's time, Atari was a pioneer in bringing arcade games into our homes. Against all the odds and often out-performed by competitors it reigned for an astonishing 12 years, when finally in 1989 the production line stopped.

Now more than 33 years on it still has a massive fan base and fan made games are still being produced to this day!

Join me as I reminisce the 70's and 80's with my old Atari - ENJOY!

P.S. If you weren't around in the 70's and early 80's this video will probably be of no interest to you lol :D

  • I'm only 23 years old, but I've always been fascinated with older technology and video games from the 1970's and early 80's. I just got into designing and programming homebrew games for the Atari 2600, and it's pretty awesome what you can do with such limited hardware. This video for me was really nice and really put it in perspective for me what it must've been like to grow up back then. I always thought I was born too late. XD

  • @Matrix803 The Atari was one of the first of it's kind going back in the 70's, so it was a really exciting time. Glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • My brother and I convinced our dad to get us one. We were so excited but then disappointed when all they had at Target were rainchecks for the item. Later, my mom decided to throw away some of our best games like "Adventure" because they were "demonized", she found out about their occult themes and tossed them in the garbage.

  • @sketchyj Occult themes, I didn't know that! :O

  • im 31 years old and i remember my father and his freinds would play this game system in either the late 1970's or early 1980s. my father had a Telegames version of the system and he told me the system might still work and i can have it and the games a few years old and when i hooked it up it did not work. thing is he told me there had been a acident and beer was spilled on it. i have a atari 7800 and i play my fathers video games.still adding to my collection.my father has moved on to new games

  • @TheNecropolis20 The 7800 is a nice console although I never owned one myself but I heard good things, and the fact that they could play the 2600 carts was a great feature.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Do you have Star Wars The Arcade Game? That was cool.

  • I got my Atari 2600 in Christmas of 1979 as well! Great retrospective!

  • @RobotOnLine i dont mean any disrepect im not trying to be a troll but thanks for the comment. i used to have a next door neighbor and he was a 13 year old boy named justin and he would come over to my house every day or so till he moved out a few months ago. he loved playing the games on my atari 7800 i got a hugh kick out of buying exspensive atari 7800 games for like 20 or so dollars a piece off ebay and playing them with him. his two favorite atari 7800 games were mario bros and xenophobe.

  • @RobotOnLine yes, she found out there were references to magic in the game. During this same time period she also threw away a large Smurfs figure collection for the same reason, magic. We weren't allowed things like fireworks either, they are part of "worldly" holidays. Or allowed to see movies like "ghostbusters".
