he was racking it back because the slide was not allowed to rack back because he put his thumb in the way; therefore, no ejection; therefore no feeding; therefore nothing to fire. he had to rack it back to get the spent shell out, and a new round into the chamber. he tapped the bottom of the mag out of habit of good training

notice the mag is fully seated after each shot and doesnt move.

again, its not a bad magazine, its just what you are taught to do when the gun doesnt go bang.
