"Death and Taxes" trailer

Just in time for tax season! Meet 28 people who offer their motivations for and methods of resisting the war machine
with their tax money. The National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee produced this tightly paced 30-minute film, which introduces viewers to war tax refusal and redirecting tax dollars to peace, with music by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Antibalas, Rude Mechanical Orchestra, and First Strike Theatres version of Dont Pay Taxes by Charlie King. Trailer shows the opening couple minutes of the film with footage of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings filmed by Freedom Fries Productions at the Knitting Factor in New York City (used with permission). "Death and Taxes" was edited by Carlos Steward and co-produced by Steev Hise.

I stopped paying for war in 1976 and have been involved with the national and local war tax resistance groups since 1982. It helps to be self-employed or work for temp agencies. Sometimes it's scary, but the truth is if you have little money and its hard for them to get it from you, they tend to just send you yearly demand letters. However, they can target people if they choose. But it's one way to express resistance, if not the ultimate solution.

What do we do if we are receiving money when we do our taxes? WOuld not accepting the money help in any way? Should we get as much as possible as early as possible so it cannot be invested in war? Is there some caveat that results in us being owned or liable in some new ay if we apply for tax returns?

I was encouraged to see anyone do anything at all.

It is easy to talk or think or surf the internet about issues that are bothersome, but it is much more difficult to commit to any plan of action.

APPLAUSE for any War Tax Resister (WTR) with the courage to live their convictions to any degree.

I noticed one speaker was "SJ" meaning Society of Jesus or a Jesuit Priest.

Other WTRs I know are MDs and various respected members of society who simply cannot pay for war in good conscience.

Thanks for making this important documentary just before tax time! I know I will not be paying taxes for War and Corporate Greed this year.
