Bali Indonesia Meditation

A disappointing 5 day stay on the Indonesian Island Bali.
Although the Island has many beautiful locations and may be an excellent place for many to celebrate their holiday, the Island is not a good place to stay for winter (Unless one has a huge wallet).

The Indonesian policy which complicates stays longer than a month and additional costs makes Bali very expensive.
Complaints from about all nationalities about prices have gone up with some 400% in 2 years time.
For those who like shopping and partying everything is there, however I personally know places in Southern Europe which have the same price levels or even cheaper.

Looking for tranquility & affordable places I found Malaysia much better AND the Indonesian Islands Batam & Bintan also.

If one would wish to stay in beautiful Indonesia in winter it would be much cheaper to stay in Batam & Bintam where many ferries will bring you very cheap to Malaysia every month to get a new Visa.
The prices on those Islands are also much lower not yet being 'spoilt' by mass tourism.

During our 6 week stay in Malaysia we also heard from some people that staying on Kalimantan/Borneo will be much cheaper since the Island is part Indonesia and part Malaysia.
One could easily cross the border one hour (walking) to get back into Indonesia every month to get the new Visa on arrival.

For those who are looking for reasonable price short holiday, many tourists & shopping Bali is quite OK.

Air Asia low cost airlines have excellent service & quite comfortable seats with cheap (limited) menus.
However if one has to fly up and down to nearest airport monthly (3 persons) even low cost flights are to much.

The as tranquile promoted place Sanur we found overcrowded & noisy.

Nice to have been on this beautiful Island and have had this experience.

Most likely a one time experience.
Batam, Bintan we most likely will return as hopefully also Kalimantan/Borneo where we have not been yet.

comparing bali to batam! lol man thats a joke. I spent year in bali on ten dollars a day, as recently as 2010. 2 months visas and visa runs to KL and singapore. Batam on the other hand is crap. A small stop off for singapores large cargo ships and a place where singapore can dig up sand to expand its reclaimed land projects.
