@LeftiesWillRule = again, i said it is subjective and talked of social impact for the factual aspects of the groups named. i never spoke of Pink Floyd's musicianship and only mentioned their songwriting. you miscontrued it into musicianship, so i only clarify that part of your comment. music and words are seperate, Pink Floyd for words, and not music was my point. happy listening and to each their own as far as who is best or less.

@stroh013 I desperately wanted to include Pink Floyd into that masterful songwriting club, as they are my favorite band of all time, but I cannot do so honestly. The chord structures are great and the riffs are well written, but they do not compare to the intricacies of their contemporaries. Pink Floyd manages to do much more with much less, as can be seen by Gilmour's solo style, but save for Wright's occasional influence, it is much simpler than the rest.

@LeftiesWillRule =it is subjective, but Rush's songwriting did little to change thinking and culture. Jethro Tull made younger children study music history and take up playing instruments. In the era of the 70's, not many groups compare to the overall intellectual community like Jethro Tull's music and lyrics did. Mike Rutherford wrote some nice songs and were entertaining, but Pink Floyd overshadowed that type of songwriting. I leave it to each individual to choose what they like best!!
