  • alot of people don't realize, america actaully has more forest land then we did in 1900, you will never blieve this if you listen to modern media.

  • @ORVX Good point, I actually knew that, that is true ORVX. The example of the Sierra Mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe used to be completely barren for constructing the railroads and for logging. All those trees are relatively new.

  • If Permaculture is not a solution then we are in serious trouble after the fossil fuels hit peak production (no GAS = no tractors). One thing is certain the current way of living is not going to last much longer. Have you seen Geoff Lawton "Greening the Desert - Revisited"? Take a look at the new wheat farmers in northern India that are going to turn it to desert. We have to move away from our obsession with Wheat, Dairy etc. and get back to gardening!

  • Historically places like Africa were not desserts, they were abused by cattle grazing about 3000 years a go - in the same way a south America is going today. The process of global warming covers a much bigger period than the industrial revolution. If we look a Scotland's bare and exposed highlands, 400 years ago they were covered with forest, as was the rest of the UK some time earlier.
