A high-rise bank office building in downtown Harrisburg has a Simplex 4120 voice evacuation system. When an alarm occurs, the whoop tone and evacuation message are played on the fire floor, as well as the floors above and below the fire floor. On the remaining floors of the building, the system plays the warning chime. The horn/strobes you hear in the background were installed after the system was put in, the original panel was a Simplex 2120 BMUX. This was recorded in the basement.

  • That sounds like a SpectrAlert advance!

  • @TssCman123 I don't remember what kind of A/Vs were there aside from the Simplex stuff. This was almost two years ago now.

  • Huh it didn't actually talk!

  • @hyperbaricchicken101 It plays the whoops and voice evac messages on the fire floor, and one floor above and one floor below. For the remainder of the building, the warning chime is played.

  • We have something similar at the hospital I work at, but the LifeAlarm speakers are separate and were mounted on the light plates, which all blink in Fast March Time. Panel is a Simplex 4100, but there is also a 2001 for the light plates, and the pull stations and smoke detectors in non-renovated areas (other areas have 4903 speaker/strobes.)

  • I hear a code 3 tone in the background

  • speaker looks like a 2902 9739 with a light

  • PING! PING! PING!

  • @zachsaber1 You're right, now that I listen to it again. I guess when I posted this, it was hard for me to tell the difference between alarms. lol, figures, a lot of Simplex systems use Wheelock notification appliances.

  • @TssCman123 I think it is a whelock as.

  • @blackmaxima Was there a fire when you recorded this?

  • I literally love older systems like these. Most new systems today are voice-evac or completely electronic.

  • that stuff is mad creepy

  • Maybe they felt the warning chime wasn't loud enough for the basement considering it most buildings that's where all the machinery is located or else the put it in the penthouse.
