Having never wired anything more complicated than a Strat I decided a while back to have a go at the Noisy Cricket amp from the fantastic Beavis Audio site. With a lot of trepidation and horrible solder joints I put together the motley collection of parts I'd got from Maplin and Radio Shack. When I first plugged it in with everything set on zero I got a lot of really bad hum so I assumed I'd totally fouled it up. After a bit of fiddling with switches and the other controls I actually got sound out of it. It's very buzzy, the tone's horrible and some of the controls and the LED don't work but I'm still quite pleased. Next time I'll try and be more careful and build something that's actually halfway acceptable as an amp. Still as a learning experience this has been really great.
