It is neat to see some of these old old engines going. There is Huell Howser on PBS in California with an episode where they fire up a one of these oil pump engines and the pump has this really long big beam going up and down.

These thing can be a serious pain to start hand cranking! You gotta give it your all and if you don't get it on your first crank, you better get it on your second otherwise your going to be exhausted!

I've seen a few with small pony engines for starting..but sometimes just getting the starter engine to run is a big enough challenge! LOL :-)

Either a hand crank or an electrical crank like Carl is using in this video.
