Bela Fleck, Abigail Washburn, Casey Driessen and Ben Sollee, fresh from their tour of Tibet, are playing in Beijing on November 10 and 11, 2006. Check out www.ygtwo.com for more information.

This interview with the band was recorded on a hutong house rooftop as they jammed with Illiqi and Hujilitu from the Beijing-based Mongolian folk band Hanggai before they left for Tibet.

Sound was recorded with on camera microphones.

  • Wonderful, and beautiful sounds. But possibly still a bit patronising? Your call..

  • cool Mongolian vocals!

  • outstanding.

  • wouldn't you like a nice plum wine better!

  • Tsingtao is better. i love this project it is so valuable aestetically culturally musically politically spiritually. this music means a lot to me because i play banjo and grew up in china with an appreciation for diverse musical traditions and you synthesize them beautifully.

  • Bela Fleck ist der beste BanjoPicker der Welt.

UND: Ohne Ihn könnten die Anderen in seiner Gruppe einpacken.

  • American country music in mongolian!!!

  • One more Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet video. I hope she comes to Taiwan.

  • I think that it's a show of respect to at least try to converse with people in their country in their own language, if only the basics like greetings and common courtesies.

It's unfortunate that many people who speak only one language seem to expect that everyone else simply adjusts to their language, even (or especially) if they are in a foreign country.

Living in a small country, I'm not in the position to expect everyone else to speak my language, but IMO that's a blessing.
