This is a human interest piece I created for my Documentary theory class at the University at Buffalo.My subject, Ryan Lynn is an outdoor adventurist and enthusiast whom I met while studying at UB. I, Ryan Monolopolus, chose my subject because of his obsession with the outdoors and using them as a vessel for social retreat, but also because I found something about his passion for the wild to be pure.
In totality I but in over two hundred hours of work into my project, constantly editing, filming and interviewing my subject to better illustrate him through my chosen medium.
This piece also helped me assert myself in my interest in being a documentarian, as this is the first in a series of many human interest pieces I will be creating.
All in all the film is simple, It is not a film about Ryan Lynn, or a film about the great outdoors, it is about the unity of the two and the simple happiness that it brings to a young man struggling to find his place in the world as we all are.
A film on happiness, passion and purity of the human spirit, I invite you to take a ride "In the Outback".
-The film has been selected for the University at Buffalo Student show, has won awards for best nonfiction in Buffalo film festivals and is being screened at the New York University film contest this summer. I hope you all enjoy!!
