The Apple Tree - Gorgeous
( performed by Barbara Harris ) from the 1966 musical The Apple Tree. directed by Mike Nichols and starred Barbara Harris, Alan Alda, and Larry Blyden. music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick this song is from the 3rd act which is based on Jules Feiffer's Passionella).

Look
at
me
I am
gorgeous.!
I am absolutely gorgeous.
There's this avalanche of beauty in one woman and I'm it.
Ahh.
Oh look at the way all of the parts fit together.

Stunning.
See the way my nose stopped running.
I was positive this creature was there inside here ol' me.
All bottled up waiting to get free.
Now I see the real me.

Look at this, look at that.
Look at those, let me just feel me.
Beautiful, glamorous, raidient, ravishing.
Look at the hair.
Look at this shape.
Look everywhere.

I am such a devine me.
Every studio will sign me.
My cup runneth over.
Whoever saw such a complete wow!

Nobody will say no to me now.
No one, is as, gorgeous, as.
Me-Ahhhhhhh.

yeah , im not sure Babara Harris ever really sang that note.

check out the Tony Awards video and you can see that she didn't then either , but i think it was actually intended to be part of the comedy of the song/show.

IMO Chenoweth does indeed have a great voice and the fact that she herself did the high note is truly awesome , but i prefer Harris's version , the comedic value of the song stands out better .

  • This is my song for my solo dance this year!

  • There is so much character in this it's ridiculous! I love it! Kristin's version is great too (I like that she took a different take on it; it's so annoying to see people trying to emulate and not create) and she's absolutely stunning, but I just can't stop listening to this version! So hilarious ^_^

  • @Marcie: Its also not her actually singing the high note in this version. I still enjoy this quite a bit, the rasp in her voice makes it a lot of fun
