Lieutenant Prudence "Prudy" Burns was a nurse at the segregated 268th Station Hospital in New Guinea. At the time, they were not allowed to treat white patients and all of their blood had to be marked with an "A" for African. But when a young white soldier's life was on the line, the "A" blood worked just fine.
