@urbex2007 The Volt may be expensive (2012 model starting at $40,000) but it is a really nice car, at least as nice or nicer than a BMW, Lexus, Audi, or Infinity that cost about the same. Plus it uses so much less gas and the electric drive is a very cool experience.
Gas costs: buy gas about once a month, about $25 worth of premium each fillup.
Electric cost: it has raised my electric bill by about $25 a month.
Maintenance: change oil about once a year.
I drive close to an average amount.

@phishintube MORE than my turbo diesel Ford Focus 1.6litre!!! Mine does 50MPG around town and 70+MPG on the motorway (UK) at 70MPH. The volt costs the same as TWO of my cars, more to insure, service and depreciates FAST. Also an overnight charge will cost a fortune here, how many KWh does it use? The battery needs replacing after 3 years and costs more than the car. You can't measure MPG on a generator not connected to the wheels!!! It's a con and a total flop in the UK, only 15 sold so far!!!!

Thousands of car accident victims were left behind by the massive government bailouts of GM and Chrysler. The $50 billion rescue of GM and the restructuring of Chrysler allowed them to "wash away legal responsibility for car-accident victims who had won damages or had pending lawsuits," OMG just found out,NO VOLT FOR ME.
