Ohio State University is Going Green

The Ohio State University is going green! A number of green initiatives are already underway in many campus departments and college units today. One of the initiatives is green computing. As described in the video, green computing will help the university use less energy and reduce costs. Each student, faculty and staff can help the university make a difference by implementing these green initiatives while on campus. Many of these energy-reducing and cost-saving initiatives can also be implemented at home. By all working together, we can help make Ohio State scarlet, gray and green!

With all due respect, I think the advice here is short-sighted, especially coming from the OSUCIO's office. While this information might apply to personal electronic devices, this video does not separate that from university owned equipment of which IT managers have to constantly keep these e-devices up-to-date. That is hard to do if the device is powered down or asleep. Saving energy is hip, but not when it means my privacy can be compromised because a computer is missing security updates.#FAIL
